For the second year in a row, Bristol City Centre has won the national Purple Flag award for having a safe and well managed city centre location.
The Purple Flag scheme is awarded by the Association of Town Centre Managers.
It was awarded following a joint application by Bristol City Council, Avon and Somerset Police and Destination Bristol. The award is given after inspections for specific criteria, such as safety, cleanliness, transport, attractiveness and the appeal of such things such as arts and culture.
Cllr Gary Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Targetted Improvement for Bristol City Council, said: “Winning the award again shows that we have maintained the progress in our work to ensure the city is a safer, cleaner and a more pleasant place to be in the evenings and at night. One of the factors the judges singled out for praise last year and which is continuing is the strong partnership working between the council, police, Destination Bristol, and key members of the commercial sector. Purple Flag is recognition for the all the hard work done by police and council agencies in the city centre".
Further comment was made by John Hirst, Operations Director for Destination Bristol "We are delighted to have retained the award as it clearly demonstrates to visitors that our city centre offers a high standard and wide choice of entertainment with well co-ordinatedn services for a great night out, for all ages and tastes."
Kevin Cox Founder of Bristol Letting Agents igloolets.com said “Bristol just continues to go from strength to strength in attracting people, it is important not only to have a vibrant place, but also a safe place. Renting in Bristol city centre continues to be popular because it actually is a much safer environment than it used to be. Demand for renting in Bristol especially in the central location, is quite simply outstripping demand”
