Even with the increased cost of university fees, according to a recent report by paramount magazine
International students are starting a new trend of renting luxury apartments while they study.
Letting agents throughout the main core university cities such as Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh are seeing more international students of wealthy parents, wanting that bit more than is usually offered for main stream students.
Kevin Cox founder of Bristol Letting Agents www.igloolets.com said “The common image of student living in below par accommodation, is becoming a thing of the past. with larger providers of bespoke student blocks coming on stream, in central locations, Landlords are having to step up to the plate to keep up with standards.
Investors watching the trend should be advised it is not an type of investment vehicle which suits all. However, those wealthier parents who are purchasing central location apartments are looking at renting out to professionals after their siblings have finished university.
Avoiding empty rental periods throughout the summer months, which is often when student accommodation is unoccupied. The benefits of purchasing an investment like this, has the advantage that good quality property is more likely to sail through the checks outlined in student accommodation guidelines.
Speaking tosafestore.co.uk of the emerging trend, lettings expert Jonathan Moore explained:"With the increase of demand from international students with bigger budgets, we are seeing a niche luxury lettings market emerge in many university towns, with investors targeting higher rents - albeit from a bigger investment. "No sensible landlord wants to risk their property remaining vacant over the course of an academic year because of its poor condition."
