The National Landlords Association has recently published a new survey which found that 24 percent of Landlords want their properties to go green and over 38 percent are considering it.
66 percent of private landlords are thinking about taking benefit from the Governments Green Deal.
21 percent of landlords revealed that they were unsure about the scheme.
The Green Deal is offered to Landlords to make improvements to their rental properties, regarding loft and wall insulation. This is repaid through a levy added to utility bills David Salusbury, NLA Chairman, said: “The scheme guarantees tenants lower utility bills while providing them with warmer homes and landlords will benefit from long-term improvements to their properties.” However, he warned that the actual cost of improvements will be a key factor in landlords’ decision-making processes.
Kevin Cox of Bristol Letting Agents igloolets.com said, “ I would always recommend to Landlords to insulate their properties better, it helps in the eradication of cold spots and mould. Not only this if the property is cold in the winter and utility bills are high for tenants they will consider moving out. This is then an additional cost for Landlords, often bigger than the initial cost of the basic improvements in the first place”
