One of the more unusual residents of Bristol, was recently caught on remote camera in the dockside of Bristol.
If he was looking for a new home he should have tried some of the Bristol letting agents. However, one of Britain’s best-loved water creatures the otter has been spotted, padding his way along the harbour wall.
However only a few local people have been lucky enough to spot their new neighbours, who experts say must be "the most urban populations of otter in the country."
Nature officers originally found evidence of otters in the harbour side at the end of 2010, with droppings being found along the rivers of Frome and Brislington Brook.
Experts are surprised that the otter was spotted to close to the city centre. There has been an ongoing survey, and it was infact not just by chance that the otter was seen, as hidden cameras have been placed in the hope of capturing one of the otters. Naturally the commissioned officers were delighted at the find.
Leader of Bristol City Council, Barbara Janke, said: "The return of otters to our waterways is very welcome news and further evidence of Bristol's green credentials. By cleaning up our harbour and improving our waterside habitats, we have been able to create an environment where wildlife can thrive right in the heart of the city."
According toThis Is Bristol, plans are now being put into place to protect the otters from further developmentand to "continue to encourage the greening of the docks through initiatives such as floating reedbeds to make it better for otters and other wildlife."
