Over 46% of tenants income now has to pay the rent

If things were not bad enough already recent figures from Findaproperty.com have revealed that over 46% of a typical tenant net income goes to paying the rent, with average rents having now risen to £890 per month.

In London the figure is even higher, with average rents in the capital being £2,075 per month, with the typical household only bringing in £2,721 net monthly income

The average monthly rents rose by a further 1.6% last month With rents rising every month this year, now being 4.6% over the last 12 months, this has added nearly £500 to the average rental bill

In a recent article Chief executive Campbell Robb, told The Independent: 'We have become depressingly familiar with first-time buyers being priced out of the housing market, but the impact of unaffordable rents is more dramatic. 'With no cheaper alternative, ordinary people are forced to cut their spending on essentials like food and heating, or uproot and move away from jobs, schools and families.'

Speaking to mortgagesolutions.co.uk, property expert Samantha Baden explained: "Rental prices are continuing to increase at a startling rate, as difficulties remain in the home-buyer segment of the market. "Accommodation at this price means that a place of your own is simply unfeasible for many people and there is a growing trend towards young professionals flat sharing for longer in an attempt to save a deposit to help them get onto the property ladder."

Throughout the country letting agents are being inundated with rental enquiries, lack of supply of houses for sale is forcing more people into renting while they wait for the market to pick up.

Kevin Cox of Bristol letting agents igloolets.com said “Quite frankly at this time we just cant get enough stock to fulfill the demand, landlord can now be very selective in the tenants they choose to take their properties. Rental arrears with Landlords is now a big factor, in the thought process of all landlord.”
